Financial reports for the mock election display $30 for Mitt Romney’s campaign and $35 for President Barack Obama’s.
Both Julie Prascsak of the Romney campaign and James Waring of the Obama campaign turned in their reports before the allotted deadline, Oct. 19.
As of Oct. 22, the Gary Johnson and Jill Stein campaigns have yet to turn in their reports. Matt Stromberg and Caroline Ibarra – treasurers for the Johnson and Stein campaigns, respectively – will be required to pay a penalty.
All four candidates will be supplemented by funds from the MaGovern Super PAC. The Super PAC collected $24, but each candidate received $6 from it. Andi Mulshine, advisor for the mock election, made the decision in response to students’ confusion. “Some kids who gave him a dollar were not sure what they were supporting,” Mulshine said.
Romney’s report did not indicate whether the $30 included the $6 from the Super PAC, attributing all of its funds to individual donations. Obama’s report indicates $29 came from individual donations and $6 from MaGovern’s donation.
The financial forms will be readily available to the public.
“You’ll be able to publish it, look at it, and see who’s supporting each candidate,” Mulshine said. “Something that happens often, in a real election, that people want to know who is supporting a candidate financially.”
