Jill Stein, the Green Party presidential candidate, was arrested on Tuesday with her running mate after attempting to enter the presidential debate.
Stein is on the ballot for 85% of the country, yet many registered voters don’t know what she stands for.
Our country’s Bill of Rights states a freedom of speech and a freedom of protest. Apparently, this does not apply to debates.
Stein and her running mate, Cheri Honkala, were both arrested and handcuffed to chairs for eight hours.
Stein said that her inability to speak was a “mockery of democracy.”
Stein is running for presidency, just as are president Barack Obama and Governor Mitt Romney, yet she doesn’t have the funding to be heard as they do. Also, she is a member of a third party and is therefore not allowed to speak at debates. This is because the group that runs the debates is entirely democratic and republican.
All voters should hear all of their options and have the necessary information to make a proper decision. However, freedom of speech depends on the amount of money you have. All men are created equal, but not all are treated so.
