The freshman and junior classes are still tied for first in Spirit Week, according to the SGA’s Facebook page. Both classes gained 20 points for 98 percent participation in today’s theme, Tacky Tourist Day. The senior class earned 10 points for 96 percent participation and the sophomores earned 5 points for 84 percent participation.
Today, each class raised $20 for its charity. Freshman and juniors have raised a total of $50 each for their charities, and the sophomores and seniors have each earned $40.
Freshman Maryann Rojas of Belmar said she’s enjoyed her first Spirit Week thus far.
“I think this is a way for all of us to connect, because we all have different styles, but once you have this general idea, we can all look the same,” she said.
For Design Academy junior Michaella Burke of Middletown, the participation in the week so far has been a pleasant surprise.
“At my old school, no one really participated in Spirit Week,” she said, adding that the competitive nature of the week makes for “a really friendly environment.”
