Fans of the Monmouth Regional Falcons went home happy last week when the Falcons picked up a huge win on the road last Friday over the Point Pleasant Boro Panthers 27-20 in a non-league contest.
With the win, the Falcons have now matched their win total from their infamous 1-9 season in 2011. The past five seasons, Monmouth Regional has finished with a losing record.
Junior Isaiah Searight was the best receiver for the Falcons, catching four passes for 68 yards. Senior Dan Armenti also helped by hauling in two receptions for 46 yards.
But the story of the game was junior quarterback and linebacker Jimmy Green, who displayed not just his force offensively, but defensively as well. Green completed nine passes for 156 yards and two touchdowns and also ran for 81 yards to go along with an interception return for a touchdown.
According to the rankings at maxpreps.com, the Falcons climbed the state rankings by moving to 237 from 279 last week. In addition, Monmouth Regional also made the biggest climb in the national rankings, rising from 10,429 to 8,375.
The Falcons will look to keep their momentum going for the rest of the season and build off of their opening win.
