An eclectic personality

Junior Veronica Lindquist of Bradley Beach harbors a passion for all things music and unconventionality.

Lindquist said her life revolves around her love of music. This began when she was 7 years old after she saw a Green Day music video on MTV which she said resulted in “an explosion of emo.” Emo is an abbreviation of “emotional” and is “a person who is overly sensitive and full of angst or adopts a certain style characterized by dyed black hair, tight t-shirts and jeans,” according to Dictionary.com.

Today, Lindquist said her favorite band is still Green Day, but she now considers herself goth, which she describes as “emo with class.”

“I love Hot Topic,” Lindquist said. “It’s better than Disney World.”

Lindquist wears black daily and also has a tattoo of a ghost on her left middle finger. She said it represents bassist Devin Solo of the band Motionless in White, whose nickname is “Ghost.”

“I lit a sewing needle on fire, dipped it in a cap of India ink and started poking my hand with it,” said Lindquist. “Now I’m stuck with it, but Devin’s my friend.”

Lindquist said she plans to get many professionally-done tattoos in the future, starting on her eighteenth birthday.

Lindquist’s friend and classmate junior Kyle Baird of Middletown said she is “eccentric,” which is true not only of her taste in music but also in food. Her favorite sandwich is peanut butter and hot sauce, which she introduced to Baird. Baird said that he now loves peanut butter and hot sauce sandwiches.

“She’s not a good role model,” he said. “But she is a good person.”

Baird and Lindquist often go to concerts together, including Skate and Surf 2013, which Lindquist said was the best concert she has ever attended. With the variety of music performances, Lindquist said she enjoyed the festival because of her appreciation for every kind of music.

“Concerts are my everything,” said Lindquist.

Outside of the concert scene, Lindquist enjoys writing, but has not been doing so recently due to lack of inspiration, which she said she gets from things that she hates.

“I don’t write to have fun,” Lindquist said. “I write to vent; it’s a crutch.”

In the future, Lindquist looks forward to more bands, tattoos and a career in entertainment management. For now, she has her hands full with school, concerts and a few newborn kittens.

“There’s this one all black one that I want to keep,” said Lindquist. “I would name it Lucifer. You know, like Cinderella’s cat. Or Satan.”

Lindquist is vocal and stands behind her opinions.

“Anyone who disagrees with me can come fight,” she said with a smile. “You know where I am.”

Probably at a concert.
