The Emmys are considered to be the biggest night of television. As opposed to the Academy Award winners, Emmy award winners determined by a television academy of 6,000 people, 200 more than the Academy Award panel. Each member of the Emmy academy judges for five categories. For each category, they must watch videos and TV shows of the nominee to complete their decision.

Host Jimmy Kimmel started off the night with a sharp monologue that highlighted the biggest shows of television this year. According to Today on NBC, Because “The People v. O.J. Simpson” and “Game of Throneswere both predicted to win big, Kimmel made it clear that anyone in a show without dragons or a white Bronco… just go home.”

The first big winner of the 2016 Emmys was Amazon’s “Transparent”. Kimmel described “Transparent” as “born a drama but identifies as a comedy,” according to press reports. The show took a lead early in the night with two wins in the comedy category, Jill Soloway for Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series and Jeffrey Tambor for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series.

The overall network winners of the night were FX and HBO, each walking away with six awards. Five out of six of FX’s awards came from Ryan Murphy’s new crime serial, “The People s. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story.”

Kimmel also found a way to address some serious issues during his time on stage, noting the fact that no nominee selection has been as diverse as this year. Despite his goofy personality, Vanity Fair claims the crowd was wild and pleased with Jimmy Kimmel at the 2016 Emmy Awards.
