On May 31, the Class of 2020 elected their class council for the 2019-2020 school year starting in the fall. To secure a position on council, 10 juniors gave two minute speeches in the cafeteria in order to fill the five council positions.

The senior class council will consist of President Vaughn Battista of Tinton Falls, Vice President Maeve Miller of Manasquan, and council members Sam DeCuicies of Howell, Desiree Negrin of Fair Haven and Katherine Lombardi of Middletown.

Former freshman class council member and newly elected senior president Battista says he feels optimistic for the upcoming year and is hopeful for what is to come.

“I’m really excited about organizing all of our big events next year,” Battista said. “I think this year, we should focus less on big new ideas, and focus more on making sure the stuff we already have to do goes as smoothly as possible.”

English teacher and Class of 2020 adviser Kathryn Diver is pleased with the new council because she knows that they are dedicated to the success of the class and all the activities that the next school year has in store.

“We have a lot to do this year,” Diver said. “Last year’s council set up this year with a good amount of money for events like our trip to New York City, senior dinner, and prom.”
