Communications High School is an ambitious community brought to life through extracurriculars and go-getting students. The staff, old and new alike, take on leadership roles meant to encourage and ensure a bright future for students.
World History and Junior Seminar teacher Courtney Conroy started teaching at Communications this year and has already made waves.
“My first year at CHS was great. I really enjoyed working with students from all over Monmouth County. I learned a lot, and I feel very lucky to be teaching here,” Conroy said.
After spending the year observing the environment at Communications, she is ready to take on a heavier workload. Conroy is assuming the role of Yearbook Club advisor. She is eager to attain the position and has begun work on next year’s publication.
“We have already hit the ground running!” Conroy said.
Having many years of experience, Conroy is no stranger to the yearbook design process.
“I served as the yearbook advisor at my previous school for five years,” Conroy said. “Our trim size, page count, and production schedule were the same as The Beast.”
Freshmen English teacher JoAnne Colvin is also taking on a leadership position as the Class of 2027 advisor. After an “amazing” first year at CHS, Colvin is excited to make evenmore memories with the incoming freshman.
“I am looking forward to meeting and getting to know the Class of 2027 at our Thompson Park outing and the Back to School Dance,” Colvin said. “These are both opportunities for freshmen to meet each other, socialize outside of the classroom and begin to build memories and friendships that, I believe, will last a lifetime.”
For Fitness and Health teacher Jennifer Baldaccini, 2023 marked her second year teaching at CHS. In that short period, she has already taken on significant extracurricular duties.
Currently, Baldaccini is the Class of 2026 advisor and was the SGA co-advisor last year. The two jobs were different, but both required lots of hard work.
“As SGA co-advisor there was a lot more planning, whereas being a freshman class advisor there still was organization pieces, but I try to allow my freshman council to take responsibility,” Baldaccini said.
As the school year comes to an end, Baldaccini reflects on what she is most looking forward to next year.
“I am excited to meet the new freshman class and help them learn the culture of CHS and continue teaching the upperclassmen, ” Baldaccini said.
