On Thursday, Sept. 21, students of Communications High School enjoyed the annual Club Fair during lunch, where they learned about and signed up for the many different student-run clubs. This event prompts students to join as many clubs as they want and explore different interests in clubs such as the Drama Club, the Baking Club and the Cultural Communications Club (CCC).
For freshmen, the Club Fair can make it less stressful to find clubs that cater to each student’s interests.Freshman Brynn Hughes of Wall found clubs that she liked and was very excited to sign up for, making the Club Fair an overall positive experience for her.
“I really liked [SkillsUSA], because it had a lot of variety,” Hughes said. “Also, the Baking Club was new this year so I was really excited about that.”
For council members of clubs, making posters and bringing in food is a good way to get people to be interested in the club they’re offering.
Junior Cate Stanziola of Ocean Township recently created the Gardening Club this school year and thinks that while the Club Fair can be a little stressful, it’s a good opportunity for students to find out about new clubs.
“I think it’s a fun event with all of the snacks and I think the event itself is good because sometimes the posters just aren’t enough if you just look around,” Stanziola said. “But also because it’s such a condensed space, I feel like having them all at once can sometimes be a little overwhelming.”
Once students join clubs, they are able attend meetings at lunch, providing students with well-needed outlets to be around friends and others with similar interests while not having to worry about schoolwork. This year, the club leaders found success in the fair which resulted in many clubs getting a lot of new signups.
“We actually filled out all of our slots with new people, so that was good,” Stanziola said.
