As of this year, Señora Ana Reilly is the newest CHS Spanish teacher, but her past career is what makes her unique. For 13 years she co-owned and operated a flower shop with her sister. She always dreamed of teaching, and after raising children the opportunity came up.
Señora has always felt passionate about helping kids and Spanish. After spending the first 3 ½ years of her life in Argentina, Spanish became a part of her heritage and culture, forming her long-lasting love for the language. These two combined made teaching seem like the perfect career for her.
“I later had the opportunity to make a career change into teaching,” Reilly said. “It felt like it was the right time.”
Many students agree that Spanish–or any language in general–can be hard to learn; however, Señora Reilly appreciates the warm and welcoming nature of her students.
“I think it is a super positive environment,” Reilly said. “People are happy to be here.”
Freshman Maeve Donovan of Wall Township, a Spanish 1 student, gives her thoughts.
“Senora Reilly’s period 4 class is a calming way to end the school day,” Donovan said.
Señora Reilly will be teaching both a Spanish 1 and 3 class this year. Teaching a freshman class feels so much more rewarding for her knowing she will have the opportunity to watch these students’ journeys until graduation. For the years to come, Señora is excited to see her students grow and mature.
“I am passionate about helping kids,” Reilly said. “I like being a positive role model for them as they grow, personally.”
