Returning Communications High School alumni flooded the hallways Friday morning to share stories of their college experiences. The day began with alumni going to teachers’ classrooms and talking to their old teachers individually. Current junior and senior students sat in the cafeteria for an open discussion with the alumni that had come to visit.
Junior class president Olivia Reizer and junior Tyler Paley led the discussion and asked them questions in regards to academics, social life, majors and more.
Emily Zetkulic and Sam Peterson, students at Reed and the University of California at Berkeley, expressed their love for the west coast. They encouraged students to take that “risk” because it will pay off, or at least it did for them.
Bethany Todd and Mary Badger, roommates at Rutgers University, were happy to have each other to help adjust to the college life. Todd said that she went home almost every weekend in the beginning, she told students not to follow in her footsteps, but instead to go out and make friends.
Some students were looking forward to the insight they could gain from the alumni, while others just wanted to spend time with their friends. Jillian Furchak, junior, said, “I just can’t wait to see my seniors. That’s the only reason I’m coming to school.”
The annual Alumni Day at CHS gave students the opportunity to hear about college in a new and more relatable way.
