Color Wars – the annual battle of tug-of-war, water balloon toss, pie eating and so much more – has been moved up one day to begin at 9 a.m. today instead of Friday.
Principal Jim Gleason announced the change yesterday at the beginning of fourth period. He said the likelihood of a rainy Friday weather forecast forced the change. The SGA had met at lunchtime Wednesday to discuss options.
“You can’t call it too early, you have to wait and make sure the rain is actually going to come. This morning when I came in, it looked pretty certain that it was going to rain on Friday,” Gleason said.
Gleason said he also spoke to Wall Township’s cafeteria service, which operates the cafeteria here, and physical education teacher Ginny Clevenger and the PSFA to arrange the revised schedule. The cafeteria services and the PSFA were the most important to handle, as “there’s a lot of food we’re talking about,” Gleason said.
“I don’t know exactly how I feel about Color Wars being rescheduled,” rising SGA president junior Sean Cavanagh of Middletown said. Cavanagh explained that with adviser Sharyn O’Keefe absent today and with much preparation for the event left, tomorrow is going to be “tough on us.” Thursday was selected as it would have been difficult to ensure good weather next week.
“It’s a day earlier, but it is still Color Wars. Kids are gonna have fun either way,” Cavanagh said.
