The third day of Spring Spirit Week featured students decked out in Greek mythology garb as well as a short skit from each grade on Wednesday, April 30.
As the day quickly approached, students were heard murmuring to each other trying to figure out what to wear to qualify for points besides a bedsheet-toga.
“I’d say it was a bit silly, especially with the storm today,” sophomore Eric Harris of Middletown said in regard to the theme. “Most people didn’t know what to wear for such a specific theme.”
During lunch, select groups of students from each grade prepared their skits, judged by a panel of teachers. The juniors won the skit competition with their rendition of what really happens during a CHS faculty meeting. In second place were the freshmen with their take on a series of dramatic emails sent earlier this year featuring “SYG” being tried in a courthouse setting. The sophomores took third by incorporating SNL jokes into their script, and the seniors placed fourth.
In the first place junior skit, students were cast as different teachers and faculty, including physics teacher Stephen Godkin, health and forensics teacher Leah Morgan and US History II teacher Ronald Klein. The actors all said the teacher’s common one-liners, which had both students and the judges smiling and laughing. After they left the stage, students were heard whispering about how the juniors won the contest hands-down.
On Thursday, students picked their favorite characters from books and movies from the latest “Divergent” to old time favorite “The Wizard of Oz.” The balloon pop competition ended with the freshmen in last place, the seniors in third place, the sophomores in second place to the juniors in first place.
Even with the juniors winning Thursday’s competition, they are in second place. As it currently stands, the sophomores are in first place, the freshmen are in third place and the seniors are in last place.
