BY MATT GRIPPO – The Back to School Dance, sponsored by the senior class, was held at Communications High School on Friday September 19th to fundraise for prom and kick off the 2014-2015 school year.
The dance was “Aloha” themed and the decorations set a Hawaiian atmosphere. The walls were covered with tiki patterns and illuminated by blue and white lights. Surfboards leaned against the walls and leis hung around everyone’s necks.
DJ Tony, of Sound Entertainments, played a set that ranged from popular dance songs often on the radio to the inventive dance mashups of Disney’s Frozen. The crowd was more than pleased when they heard their beloved Elsa sing the lyrics of “Let It Go” over an intense bass drop.
For freshman it was their first school function they have been able to participate in as students, but the dance also marked the beginning of the seniors last run through of the gauntlet of CHS events.
The event sold 188 tickets. The event was an called ‘overall success’ by the senior class council. The reported success of the dance and the attendance numbers point to a promising start for this years dances and events.
“I think this dance is a great way to kick off the school year. It’s nice to hang out with all the people that I didn’t see over the summer.” Alex Burke, senior at Communications, said.
