BY EMMA MCCAFFREY and LAURA MURPHY- Freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors alike gathered after school on Monday, Oct. 6 for the Cultural Communications Club’s first annual fall Taco Party. The president of the CCC, senior Matt Taylor, and the CCC’s adviser Sabina Campbell led the club in setting up an all-you-can-eat buffet of tacos, chips and desserts.
This event was a spin-off of Taco Night, traditionally held in the spring by the CCC, which allows seniors to enter for free. Tickets were sold during lunch for $5, but freshmen were admitted for only $3. The event created a was a way for them to get to know each other and get involved in the school at the beginning of the year.
“It’s still sort of close to the beginning of the year and some freshman meet up during the Taco Party,” said freshman Cameron DeStefano of Middletown. “We all get to bond over Mexican food.”
“There weren’t quite as many people there as we had hoped, but there were a few freshmen who showed up, which was great,” said junior Sam Dellis of Spring Lake, a member the CCC council. “It’s definitely a possibility to do it next year.”
The event concurred with the National Honor Society car wash.
“It was very synergistic,” said NHS adviser and math teacher Justine Lane. “Most of the NHS members went to the Taco Party, and many parents had their car washed when they came to pick up students.”
All proceeds from the event helped raise money for St. Jude’s Hospital. The CCC supports St. Jude’s through many other fundraisers throughout the year, including weekly breakfast and exit sales.
