The first of four CHS information sessions was held on Oct. 3. Prospective students arrived at CHS as early as 9:30 a.m. for the 10 a.m. open house. Current students and faculty filled the positions of tour guides, class presenters and opening speakers.

Principal James Gleason spoke to parents of eighth graders during his opening presentation in the cafeteria about topics including bussing, clubs and classes. In classrooms, potential CHS applicants started their day with opening presentations from student speakers.

Student tour guides were assigned one of seven groups to lead from the opening presentation to the class presentations. Each group visited seven sessions, presented by student speakers, to hear about English and History, Math and Science, Spanish and Effective Speech, Technology, Visual Communications and Journalism, TV and Radio and Digital Video.

Sophomore presenter Erin Wren of Wall enjoyed speaking about Journalism and Effective Speech.

“The experience was exciting because both the students and parents seemed very impressed with our curriculum and school spirit. I really enjoyed talking about our second home and hopefully persuading the students to be a part of the Class of 2020,” Wren said.

Tour guides included current CHS sophomores, juniors, seniors, and even one alumnus.

Sophomore Shannon Damiano of Spring Lake Heights served as a tour guide. “The easiest part was just talking to the kids, because [they] were really nice and excited to be here,” Damiano said.

Potential students and parents asked the student tour guides and presenters questions regarding homework, college, credits and general information about the school. Every room had a faculty member available in it.

CHS alumnus Evan Noone of Middletown also attended the information session and answered questions.

“I love coming back and even though I haven’t been there in a while I still knew how everything worked, and the information the students gave out was very accurate and very helpful,” Noone said.

CHS held their second of the four open houses on Oct. 14 beginning at 6:30 p.m. and ending at 8 p.m., providing information on the same classes as the previous information session.

Senior Matthew Morton of Howell, a class presenter for the second open house, was pleased with the outcome.

“I think it went very smoothly, I didn’t hear a single complaint. People complimented me on how awesome the school was and how badly they want to come to CHS,” Morton said.

Two more open houses will be held at CHS. Both plan to offer the same material on classes, clubs, events and the school.
