The Artist’s Block: Anabell Mazzan
June 17, 2021
Name of Piece: “Isolation”
Artist: Anabell Mazzan
I created this piece at the beginning of the year as a way to vent the feelings of the past year. I’ve been working on a sustained investigation that explores how different experiences shape our identities and the people we become, and in this one, I explored how isolation affects someone. I used collage to create the overwhelming effect and had a lot of fun cutting up failed photos to add to it. Art is a really great tool to process your emotions, specifically collage, because it allows you to cut things up and piece them back together again which I feel is very similar to working through emotions. This past year has been really hard on everyone and I know there are a lot of times where it can feel overwhelming, but its important to have hope that you’ll be able to get back to yourself one day.
Media Used: Collage, watercolor, book pages, magazine clippings colored pencils and markers
Time to Complete: 2.5 Hours
