Whether cruisin’ for a bruisin’ or creating a modern Greek philosophy, CHS students came to school clad in the “Grease v. Greece” theme for Day 4 of Fall Spirit Week on Thursday, Nov. 2.
To accompany this costume theme, today’s event was the Make-A-Monster competition. With the projector screen and judges’ table arranged in the cafeteria, students could not wait to watch this year’s creations.
Selecting randomly from a hat, the SGA selected the juniors to present their skit and movie first. “The 9 p.m. Nightmare” had students and staff chuckling at the students’ interpretation of Principal James Gleason’s strict rules for pick-up times.
Keeping a similar theme, the seniors’ film humorously paid homage to Gleason’s time at CHS. The judges were able to reminisce on their time with the principal, and the senior class remained certain that they could take the lead.
“Retire in Peace” (RIP) starred senior Hannah Cohen as a scared CHS student, trying to escape the ghost of Evil Gleason. She recalled the exciting movie-making process with glee.
“The whole thing was just super fun and I love how the video came together,” senior Hannah Cohen of Sea Bright said. “I’m pretty confident that we could win.”
The seniors were voted the winners, placing the juniors in second place followed by the sophomores with their “Reputation” video and the freshmen class’s video “The Fever Dream,” respectively.
Although they placed last in this event, the freshmen still valued the filmmaking experience, especially the bloopers that came with it.
“The mess-ups were my favorite part,” freshman Max Estrada of Tinton Falls said. “That’s how you learn the best and they made for the funniest moments.”
By the end of the day, the junior class was able to keep their lead with 148 points, followed closely by the seniors with 134 points, then the sophomores with 97 points and finally the freshmen with 72 points.
Tomorrow, expect to see “Kenough” pink to make a doll dreamhouse pale in comparison to Fall Spirit Week’s last theme and event: Barbie and Super Scav.
