2024 Fall Spirit Week comes to a close with one last theme and one more event before the results are announced. This week-long tradition has always been a way to unite the student body and hone in on their competitive nature, and this day is no different. The day began with the senior class in first place with 145 points, the juniors with 135, the sophomores with 118, and the freshmen with 111. As such, each grade regarded this day as the final opportunity to secure a win.
The theme for the day was “Heroes and Villains”, which had students pair in groups of two or three and dress up as hero and villain characters of various assortments. Students arrived at school sporting creative costumes, including influencer Madeline Argy with rapper Central Cee and Dr. Suess characters The Grinch and Cindy Lou Who. Each group could check in with the SGA to be counted for their grade level. Seniors and juniors tied with 20 points in this category, sophomores with 10 and freshmen with 5.
The event was Super Scav, a giant scavenger hunt where students had to find various items and place them in a box for their grade. SGA members stationed at each grade’s table marked each item off and helped tally up the score for each grade level. The game lasted from 10:45 to 11:15 and was a chaotic mad-dash that had students racing up and down the halls in search of the items. These items could be anything from a rubber duck to a 10-foot-long paperclip chain. Some students found this event to be overwhelming, including sophomore Max Estrada of Tinton Falls.
“I think it’s fun,” he said, “But I feel like everyone running around can be a little chaotic. And I think we should do something a little more fun because it’s just about who can get lucky and find the right item.”
Still, many had a great time despite how overwhelming the event could be. In many ways it brought everyone together as students had to work as one to help win this event. Senior Skylar Conner-Bennett of Ocean Township is a fan of the spirited tradition.
“It’s very stressful, but it’s a fun kind of stressful,” she said. “I think it’s nice to see all the grades coming together, even if it’s a stressful kind of event.”
After this was all done, the seniors won first place for the Super Scav, followed by the juniors, sophomores, and the freshmen, respectively. The seniors went on to win Fall Spirit Week as a whole, adding to their historic winning streak. No matter the final scoreboard, 2024’s Fall Spirit Week is sure to last as a fond memory for all of CHS.
