Tensions were high at lunchtime today as senior Gherkin Ball partners James Waring and Abigail Duddy of Manasquan faced freshmen Luke Brown and Annie Ruoff.
Waring and Duddy managed to overcome the initial freshman lead in the Gherkin Ball championship round, securing a first place victory for the Class of 2014 on Day 2 of Spirit Week.
Also, collared shirts, khakis and multicolored Sperrys dotted the hallways earlier today as students participated in Preppy Day. Junior Margaret Svikhart of Shrewsbury had been highly anticipating this day, as preppy clothing is her attire of choice.
“I enjoyed Preppy Day because it was really cool to see everyone dress in a way that they wouldn’t normally choose to dress,” Svikhart said.
The freshmen earned second place in the Gherkin Ball tournament, leaving the junior team of Michael Wheeler of Wall and Julia Greeley of Avon to take third. Sophomores Brian Brown of Sea Girt and Kelly Hooper of Howell ranked fourth.
The day culminated when SGA president Sean Cavanagh of Middletown announced the current standings. The seniors hold the lead with 65 points, followed by the sophomores with 55 points, the juniors with 45 points and the freshmen with 35 points.
After school, some students attended the annual 3v3 competition in the Wall High School gymnasium. The team of Greeley, Matthew Morton of Howell and Shane Nolan of Bradley Beach was crowned as the 2013 championship team.
Spirit Week will continue tomorrow with Crazy Accessory Day and a Candy Toss competition.
