The Communications High School (CHS) Class of 2028 raised the bar and the roof, hosting CHS-Chella on Friday, May 30. The summer music festival-themed dance checked all the boxes: decorations, outfits and, most importantly, music. It was noticeable that the attendance of this dance was nowhere near as high as others this past year, like Homecoming or Winter Ball, but the majority of attendees were from the Class of 2028 itself. Many aspects of preparation went into the making of this event, including multiple forms about ticket sellers, song requests, food drop off volunteers, decorating committee members and
schoolwide reminders leading up to the night. Freshman council member Taylor Giberson of Ocean Township explained her experience generating the night’s theme.
“The planning process was us sitting down and coming up with ideas,” Giberson said. “We sent out a Google Form asking the public’s opinion and we got our answer: Coachella!” However, it wasn’t just a freshman effort for the show to go on.
“We also got a lot of help from the sophomores,” Giberson said. “It was our first time putting a dance together, and there were only five of us.”
The dance was well-received, with opinions being positive across the board.
“I thought it was really fun,” Honestly, one of the best dances I’ve ever been to,” senior Tanner Grigoli of Ocean Township said.
Freshman Layla Elsawaf of Wall agrees that the night was a success. “I think that a lot of the grades were combined and all dancing together, so it made it a lot more fun,” Elsawaf said. Many students enjoyed socializing with classmates that they might not be able to talk to during school hours.
Giberson is now looking forward to thenext event the Class of 2028 will be in charge of.
“It was really fun and I’m really excited for Winter Ball next year,” Giberson said.
